2021 Palmetto Championship odds, picks, predictions: Model that’s nailed best bets backs surprising long shot
The final tune-up for the U.S. Open takes place this week with the 2021 Palmetto Championship. Brooks Koepka enters this event with boom-or-bust performances over his last four tournaments as he’s finished runner-up twice and missed the cut in the other two events. Due to surgery and rehab, Koepka has played only eight rounds of competitive golf since March and he’s one of two top-10 ranked golfers in the 2021 Palmetto Championship field. Koepka and Johnson are both listed at 8-1 in the latest 2021 Palmetto Championship odds per William Hill Sportsbook. No other golfers come in with odds of 15-1 or shorter, but Englishman Tyrrell Hatton is third on the Palmetto Championship 2021 odds board at 16-1. Long shots to consider include Danny Willett (60-1), Jason Dufner (125-1) and Padraig Harrington (125-1). One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2021 Palmetto Championship: Koepka, who is coming off a runner-up finish at the PGA Championship and is one of the Vegas co-favorites, comes up short and doesn’t win. The four-time major winner has missed the cut in two out of his last three events since having knee surgery in March.
Koepka has missed five cuts this PGA Tour season, which already ties a career-high for him. Much of those struggles can be pointed to his work off the tee as Koepka’s driving accuracy percentage (55.11) ranks 169th on tour. That hole in his game will become glaring at Congaree Golf Club whose holes are routed between hundreds of large oak trees. There are also many natural hazards that line the course so accuracy will be paramount to success, and Koepka lacks that.
Another surprise: Lucas Glover, a massive 45-1 long shot, makes a strong run at the title. He’s a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. After missing the cut in three of his first five events of the 2020-21 PGA Tour season, Glover has been playing much better over the past few months.
He’s recorded three top-10 finishes since December, highlighted by a fourth-place finish at the Valero Texas Open in April and a T-8 performance at the Charles Schwab Classic two weeks ago. He’s in the top 60 on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained, scoring average and total birdies. In a top-heavy field, Glover brings strong value for 2021 Palmetto Championship bets.
