London, Ont., man facing child porn charges in international investigation | CBC News
A 24-year-old man from London, Ont., is facing a charge of accessing child pornography after police in Germany traced an online transaction.
Police say members of the Internet Child Exploitation Unit received information from the National Child Exploitation Crime Centre in early March about an individual accessing suspected child pornography.
“It initiated with German federal police,” said London Police Detective Jeremy Dann. “They investigated a website that was offering child pornography content for sale and initiated an investigation. They followed the trail of crypto-currency, which led to a suspect in London, Ontario.”
While police could not disclose details about the alleged website or the tracing of crypto-currency, he said these situations are not unusual.
“Websites offering child pornography media for sale are commonplace on the Internet in certain locations, and that payment for those for that access that media by crypto-currency is commonplace.”
Search warrant leads to drug charges
London police executed a search warrant at a residence on Saddy Avenue in the southeast corner of the city on Wednesday.
During the search, police recovered a large number of computers, electronic devices and illegal drugs, including an amount of suspected methamphetamine, psilocybin and hydromorphone pills.
Police say there was also evidence of the accused accessing child pornography.
As a result of the local investigation, a 24-year-old London man is facing one count of unlawfully accessing child pornography.
The accused, along with a 28-year-old London man, are also facing three charges of drug possession and possession for the purpose of trafficking. Both are expected to answer to the charges in a London court on Aug. 24.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
