Low enrollment, pandemic leads TVDSB to layoff 50 Early Childhood Educators | CBC News
The Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) has issued layoff notices to some 50 Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) due to low registration in its Kindergarten program.
In a statement, the board told CBC news on Thursday that there is a chance the educators could return to work once the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic subsides.
“As vaccination rates increase and the pandemic eases, we are hopeful many parents will choose to send their children to school and many ECEs may be recalled in September,” said the board.
According to the TVDSB website, there are about 416 ECEs employed across 132 elementary schools.
