Washington State Adopts ‘Joints For Jabs’ Incentive Program Offering Marijuana Pre-Rolls In Exchange For Getting Covid Vaccine – The Shade Room

Would y’all get vaccinated in exchange for some marijuana? Washington state is hoping the answer is “yes.”

The state’s Liquor and Cannabis Board said this week that it would allow state-licensed cannabis retailers to “provide one joint to adult consumers who receive COVID-19 vaccination at an in-store vaccination clinic,” according to USA Today.

We’ve been hearing about the incentives that states are offering residents to get vaccinated and this program is the latest and very on brand for Washington, one of the first states in the nation to legalize marijuana for recreational use.

The board said it received multiple requests from cannabis retail licensees to help promote the state’s vaccination efforts. The approval for what the board called “Joints for Jabs” is effective immediately and is set to expire on July 12th. 

Others in the state are calling the plan “poke and toke.” 

Washington officials announced they recently reached their goal of at least vaccinating 70% of the state’s adults. Gov. Jay Inslee has said reaching that mark will allow the elimination of most remaining coronavirus-driven restrictions across the state.

The rules for the program are clear. Only one joint, no substituting other pot treats, and only good for people 21 years of age and older. 

Advertising of the program is allowed for cannabis shops.

Other states know people would prefer straight-up cash.

Last month, we reported that Ohio’s governor announced a statewide $1 million lottery for any adult getting vaccinated in the state.

The lottery was only open to adults, however, any teenager (between the ages of 12-17) who was vaccinated was entered into a separate raffle for a full-ride scholarship to any school in the state.
